“I do not know if there is anything we can do at this point,” 005 said calmly. “We must simply wait and see what happens.”

Damon sighed. Idly waiting was not something he was content to do. He opened his mouth to say something, but that was the moment when the door flew open. An Exterminator stood on the other side. He was one of the guards that had just been put in front of Dorcia’s chamber, and he had a panicked look on his face.
“L-Lord! Sir! Something is wrong with 001!”

Damon wasted no time. Immediately he was on his feet, dashing out of the room and down the halls until he reached the chamber. The other guard was standing there, an ear to the door.
“Sir, she’s just… screaming,” the guard said.

Damon motioned for the guard to move aside and he did so. Damon threw the door open to find Dorcia hunched forward, covered in sweat, her wings twitching and convulsing. She was obviously in a great deal of pain. Damon rushed to her side, not sure what to do.
“Dorcia, what is—“ he was going to ask her what was wrong, but she interrupted him with a loud scream.

As she cried out, her wings straightened out, perpendicular to her back, and then retracted into her back all at once, making sickly cracking noises that made it very clear to him that this was not an easy process.
Once the wings had retracted, Dorcia collapsed, falling as far as she could while still being chained to the wall. Damon put his arms around her and held her as she breathed heavily, clearly very worn out and probably still hurting.
She raised her head and looked into his eyes.
He spoke. “Dorcia, you… you…”

She passed out.
005, Duran, The Crow and the two Exterminator guards were in the room now. He wasn’t sure when they had entered, he hadn’t been paying attention.
Damon started to undo her chains.
“Wait!” 005 said, “What are you doing?”

“She is cured,” Damon said quietly, freeing Dorcia’s right arm.

“Do you not think that we should keep her here for a while longer, just to be safe?” 005 insisted.

“No,” Damon freed Dorcia’s left arm, and set about unlocking the shackles on her legs. “She is cured. Am I correct, Lady Crow?”

She nodded. “Yes, Father.”

Damon had unlocked Dorcia’s bonds completely now, and he took her into his arms and stood. “I will return her to her quarters.”

He pushed past all of the people there and left the chamber. He walked down the corridor, staring down at the Corrector in his arms.
What had happened? He wasn’t one to complain about such happy surprises, but he was absolutely baffled.

"Master Damon should rest," The Crow said sweetly, braiding her hair again for lack of anything else to do as they all still sat in the meeting room, waiting for him to come to a decision.

Damon was there, but he most certainly wasn't there, in a sense. He just sat hands folded, staring off at the wall with no mind to speak of, so it seemed.

"Come now. Let him think," Duran interjected, lying down on one of the tables, staring at the ceiling.

005 sighed. "I wish you wouldn't do that."

"Do what?" Duran replied.

"Please." Damon spoke the single word, looking first at Duran, than 005, before going back to staring. "I am trying to think, gentlemen."

Duran sighed. "Would you like us to leave?"

"Please do not." Damon replied with a little sigh. "I am hoping somebody has an idea as I am empty."

"Idea on what, lord?" 005 looked over with crimson eyes, jumping at the opportunity to impress master.

"On what to do next." Damon replied with a little sigh. "Of course."

After two years of no updating, Selan gets off her ass and posts. Wow.
It's not a particularly great post, but maybe this'll get things going =P

---

Dorcia didn’t have anything to do in her cell. Chained to the wall, all she could do was retreat into herself and think.
She hated thinking now. Whenever she considered her condition, everything just seemed so hopeless.
It was inevitable now, she was sure. Soon she would be fully developed, and…
The image of the dream she had had drifted into her mind. She shuddered.
Surely, the dream was precognitive. Surely, it would not be long before it came true.

But what of the other dream? she wondered. It was such a strange dream that it seemed like it could have been precognitive as well, but it didn’t seem to fit in with what looked to be her fate. The child who had called her his mother didn’t look the least bit demonic, nor did she feel like a succubus.
And the dream itself felt different. The dream she had had about herself and Mamoruno had been terrifying and horrible, whereas the one with the child felt… right, somehow.
And the man in the dream—he was so familiar. She was sure she had seen that smile before…

She gasped suddenly when it hit her. Damon! The man was Lord Damon! And the child… he looked so much like Damon, but his skin was the same color as her own.
Was the child her son? Could the dream possibly have been telling her that she and Damon…

Damon’s words echoed in her head.
I love you.
I will always love you, no matter what.

…
Her heart ached.

    <lj:music>Opeth - The Funeral Portrait</lj:music>

Astrid took Brian's hand and squeezed firmly. "Very soon. I'm... I'd just feel..."

Brian frowned and looked at her. "Feel what?" He lifted an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

A grimace panned her face as she tried to come up with something to say. "It's Damon. It's all I can think about right now and..."

Brian interuppted her. "That's right, you like the guy old enough to be your father's father's father's..." He paused. "I'm going to stop there, you get the point." He lit another cigarette in anger, and started puffing on it in a desperate attempt to calm himself.

Astrid's jaw dropped slightly and her lips parted. "No... Brian, Brian, don't be mad." She wrapped her arms around him, tears coming to her eyes. "I do love Damon, but... But not in that kind of way. He's like my best friend, like."

Brian sighed, grudgingly. "Shut up and come on." He took her hand and started to walk off, practically dragging her.

She sniffed, either from the cold or keeping herself from killing him.

Glancing back, he gave a small grin. "I don't mean it like that. Just come on."

Hands fumbling "her" hood tighter around her head, she chewed her lip. "Where are we...?"

"Back to my house. We're gonna get this over with."

She shook her head negative. "Brian, we have to report."

"You'll still remember. Come on."

She then started to follow him and he paused a moment, hiking her onto her back. She near instantly started chewing on his earlobe.

Gritting his teeth under the pain, Brian trudged on in the quickly accumulating snowbanks.

Then she said it.

It was quiet, and barely noticable, but she snuggled into her back and rested her head on his shoulders. "I love you, Brian."

He stopped, half shocked, half pleased. Lifting his legs high as he cleared the cold white fluff around, he spoke to her, even more quietly, and even more unnoticably. "I love you too."

They got back to his house and he dropped her down on the porch, rubbing his hands briskly up his arms. "No mention of this to mother dearest, alright?" She nodded.

_________

Meanwhile, Damon paced around.

He didn't need this. His whole world was crashing in around him.

And of all the places he thought he'd find himself, but in the attic of Home.

Only one Unit knew about this place. Damon wasn't sure why he's told her of all Units. Maybe it was because she was so benign, maybe it was that she had never had any serious infraction, or any that he could remember.

But she was good at calming your mind.

She was 008, and she lay on the floor above the containment cell areas. The attic was a lonely place, a mere void that was above Home. Though Units couldn't see into the attic, from the attic you should see through the floor down into anywhere in Home.

Damon paced above Dorcia's containment cell, growing more and more worried as time passed.

008 was not a normal humanoid; from waist down her abdomen was that of a giant spider. Her wide eyes watched Damon with curiosity. Neither would say, but both knew she was only there with him to help him keep his wits. "Lord, please lie down and rest. You will make yourself sick."

He frowned and kept walking. "It is too late, 008. Though it is nice of you to worry, I am already ill."

She held up a blanket she'd been weaving since they got up there out of her own silk, and walked up to him, her arachnae legs tapping on the floor. She wrapped it around him. "Please, lord, calm yourself. Worrying will not make the matter any better than it is." She gave him a small kiss on the cheek, but it was not a sexual gesture; it was just her way of comforting, much like a sister would.

He looked on the verge of tears. "I do not know what to do, 008. I... Unnumbered has corrupted her furthur than she already was... At least he has not tried to come back."

008's human arms crossed her chest, followed by one of her eight spider legs tugging her uniform top down more. "I... I..." she started to mumble. "I do not like him, my lord."

He frowned and nodded. "I am beginning to think he is more trouble than he is worth. But I know what I did when I made him. I infused him with darkness, 008." He looked at her. "Even if I turn him human, he will be just as awful as he is now..." He sat down and held his head to his knees, wrapping the silk blanket tighter around himself. "I have been afraid to just confess that to everybody, that I created something I can no longer truly control..."

She fumbled her hands together. "I am just a Programmer, Lord Damon. I cannot change what you have done."

He stood and started to leave, looking at her. "What worries me is I no longer thank I can either."

He walked off, turning the twisting corners of the attic, and came to one containment cell. He lie on his stomach and peered into it, feeling as if he were going to cry.

He did this often.

It was Crimson's cell, the daughter of his that 001 had called a monster. She feared Crimson, and had the Council decide to lock her up.

Crimson could do nothing in her cell but trudge around. She could not see, and she often spoke to herself as if she were afraid she'd forget how. She was speaking now, ranting to herself about why she was there. Why she'd been locked up.

Damon put a hand to his face and left the attic, unable to bear it anymore, and went to his office to wait for Astrid.

"Crimson... I am sorry. You were no more of a flaw than I..."

    <lj:music>Thursday- Dying in New Brunswick</lj:music>

Brian and Astrid walked down the street. They had finished talking to Poppet, having received all the information they needed about what had gone on in the chamber with Dorcia-- hell, he was probably a little too descriptive, as evidenced by the sickened expression on Brian's face.
Brian was minus a hoodie now, having given it to Poppet at the request of Astrid. Brian was regretting it, shivering in his sleeveless black undershirt.
Brian reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette and a lighter. He put the cigarette in his mouth, lit it, and let out a few puffs of smoke.
"Jeez," He sighed, "Your brother's a freak."

Astrid frowned. "I doubt what he did to Dorcia was any worse than what she did to him."

Brian shivered as a gust of cold wind blew by. "... Yeah, you're probably right."

The two were silent for a while after that, except for the occasional burst of coughing from Brian. Whether this was from the cold, dry winter air or from the smoking cancer stick in his mouth I don't know, but he'd be damned if he was going to blame his precious nicotine for anything.
Eventually his cigarette had burned down to nothing, and he discarded the butt. He blew out the last bit of smoke he had in his lungs, then spoke.
"Eh, you know," He hesitated a little, and blushed. "You know how we were supposed to have a kid, right? Well umm... there is a deadline for that." His face was bright red by now, "So when're we gonna... eh...," He coughed again, "... you know."

He lie in the snow.

On his body were only his dark pants and his uniform shirt, plus a pair of boots.

He was numb to the cold- he couldn't feel it at all.

All he knew was that he was free- freedom was a thing that Poppet had never felt in his life.

So he lie in the white snow, a coat of Dorcia's blood on his body, wearing off gently into the white fluff around him.

The haunting melody of his ocarina echoed through the park. The insturment's nature was haunting, melodic, and the sweet notes filtered through the trees.

It was a song he'd written while he was in prison.

And it sounded so much sweeter now that he was free.

_______

Brian and Astrid wandered through the park. "Your brother is fucking NUTS." said Brian as they walked. He hugged his arms tightly around his body, trying to keep himself warm.

Astrid stopped, grabbing his arm. "Do you hear that, Brian?"

He stopped and listened. "That's creepy." he said.

He turned his head, then noticed Astrid wandering off in the direction of the sound. With a heavy sigh, he started to follow.

They wandered through thick trees to an area of the park most people never went to. It was more forest than civilization.

She stopped and frowned, looking down at him as he lay on the ground, and she jabbed Brian in the arm. "Brian, look."

Brian looked in the snow at the man who lie there. He looked much like Astrid's father, Duran- his hair was shorter, however, and had a golden shine. His eyes were gold and yellow, and stitching was all over his face, neck, and hands- there was probably more, but it was covered by his clothing.

Poppet's hair was shoulder length, though Druan's went past his shoulder blades.

He was covered in blood.

Brian looked down at him as he listened to the sound that his instrument made. "Aren't you cold?"

Poppet then moved. He pulled his ocarina down, rest it on his chest, and frowned. His eyes rolled up in his head to where he looked at Brian, and he frowned heavily. "I'm always cold." he said with no humour.

Brian frowned. "I mean right now. You're lying in the snow without a coat, you moron."

Poppet frowned some more, then looked back upwards as the snow drifted in heavy flakes to his face, covering his mocha skin with ivory. He put the ocarina to his lips and played for a few more moments, then pulled it away again, glancing at Brian once again, and spoke, his voice hard and angry. "My soul. It burns."

"Okay.. I think it stopped," He wiped a little more blood off his face, then threw out the bloody tissues and put a few fresh ones in his pocket-- just in case. He then put his shoes and gloves on.
"Alright, let's get going."

She nodded, and the two left his room.
"So, any idea where he'd be?"
"Why the hell are you out in the snow, anyway?" Brian said with a frown. "Espicially without a jacket. Are you going stupid on me?"

She shook her head. Lord Damon needs to know!" she explained.

"The chamber?" inquiried Brian as he took a seat on his bed, figuring that this might take a while.

"Yes, yes... haven't you been to Home lately?" she questioned.

"No. I'm not suppossed to be interveiwed for a few more weeks, and you didn't drag me there... haven't gotten in trouble, so I figured maybe I could SLEEP for once." He gave a glare to her as he finished saying that.

So she sat down and explained everything, and by the end, her eyes were watering. "And... Damon's so... sad."

"So... your brother ripped up Dorcia?" Brian's face was one huge grin. "Sweet!"

Astrid looked at Brian. "That's not the point! Dorcia's IMPORTANT! Even if you don't like her, Home needs her."

Brian sighed. "Alright, alright..." he glanced at Astrid then... and noticed she was crying. "Oh lord, Astrid, don't cry..."

She shook her head and sniffed. "Brian, he's... so depressed."

"Who is?" he asked. "Astrid, don't cry..."

She sniffed again. "Lord Damon. He needs..."

Brian wiped her bangs back, looking in her eyes. He now was looking upset, too. "Come on, Astrid. Don't cry."

She shook her head. "Why? You don't care." Astrid laid her head down in his lap, the wet crystals streaming down her cheeks.

He bit his lip, not knowing what to say. Then he sighed. And bit his lip again, the groaned. "Alright, fine, I'll help you find your stupid brother."

Astrid smiled a littlem and looked up at him, her tail wiggling slightly. "Really?"

He nodded. "Yeah, yeah, let's go." He shook his head and wiped away her tears with a thumb. "Just stop crying already."

"Thank you, Brian." she said. She then gave him a tiny kiss on the lips.

His eyes widened. "I hope that your brother's as nice as you, Astrid..." he said with a frown.

A tiny crimson trickle began to run down his face.

"Brian... is your nose bleeding?"

Meredith shrugged, obviously annoyed by this disturbance. "Hell if I know. Go ahead and check his room if you want," She shot Astrid a nasty glare, "Just be quiet about it." And Meredith left the doorway, leaving the door open for Astrid to enter, mumbling to herself about the "fucking idiot, running around the snow without a jacket."

Astrid ignored this and stepped in, slamming the door behind her, relishing in the warmth of the well-heated Pazzesco home. After a minute or so warming up, she made her way up the stairs and to Brian's room (clearly marked with a sign: "STAY THE FUCK OUT, MOTHER"). She knocked on the door; no response. Knocked again; no response. Knocked a third time, much louder (surely loud enough to bother Meredith downstairs, but who really cares?), and finally the door opened, revealing Brian on the other side.
"Fuck, Astrid," He whined, rubbing his eyelid. "Can't I take a nap in peace?"

"No. No you can't," Answered Astrid, matter-of-factly. "Not until you gimmie a jacket."

"What?"

"It's COLD out!" She cried, shaking a pointed finger in a random direction, seemingly trying to point to outside.

"Yeah, I know," Said he, annoyed. "That's why I'm in HERE, and not out THERE."

"Yeah see! Now gimme a jacket!" She paused. "Hell, gimmie that!" She then proceeded to start pulling the hoodie Brian was wearing off of him.

"I'm WEARING this!!" He yelled, "Go wear one of my other jackets!!"

"But this one looks warm!!" She got it off of him, and put it on. It was a little big on her-- Brian's favorite black "FARK" hoodie. "This is comfy. What's this made of?"

"How the fuck am I supposed to know?" Brian grumbled, opening his closet and pulling another hoodie out-- this one red, with a pissed off 'smiley' on it, with the words "FUCK OFF" written under. "You know, I don't appreciate it when you barge in here unannounced."

Astrid frowned. "Ann does it and you don't mind."

Brian pulled the new hoodie onto his body. "But Ann doesn't rip my clothes off of me!"

Astrid walked down the road. It was snowing out, and she hadn't brought a coat.

She was freezing. The air nipped at all the naked skin on her body and breezed through her clothes easily.

Looking at her feet for a moment, she frowned, looking at the patch of ice under her feet. Blue and white, frozen thick, and she kept slipping on it, though not falling.

She tugged at her skirt, trying to get it to go lower, but it was a failed attempt. It only went three forths of the way to her knees, no matter what she did.

Trudging on down the unshoveled sidewalk, she hugged her arms together, rubbing her hands as she tried to make friction.

She was SUPPOSSED to be looking for her brother, to get a detailed log of exactly what had gone on while he was alone with Dorcia in the chamber.

But she had no clue where the hell he was. None at all.

The only thing she really knew about him was he was her brother.

As she looked around, she noticed her breath in the streetlights- it was nightfall already and the moon made a slightly bluepurple colour cast on the snow.

And she walked on, but before she knew it, her feet slipped out from under her and she skidded across the ice on her back. The gravel from the sidewalk sliced some parts of her flesh, and the impact sent a sharp numbing pain through her.

She sat up slowly, still in pain, and felt her back; her hand came back slightly sticky with blood, her flesh even more frozen than before.

Tears started to weld in her eyes from her frustration, and she stood up, looking at the ice. She then stamped on the surface with the heel of her stilletto boot until it finally cracked.

She looked at her hands, a little scraped, and very numb.

Looking up, she watched the flakes flutter down. Only they weren't flakes. As they tend to do, they'd clumped together as they'd descended, making ivory marble-sized chunks.

And she abandoned the job at hand, and ran.

She pumped her long legs, running through the snow, hoping and praying that she wouldn't fall again- she didn't, her footing suddenly sure.

Astrid ran through the snow, the wind whipping at her furry ears, her eyes pinched closed and watering from the weather. Her tail wiggled slightly.

She only wore a muscleshirt, skirt, and fishnet tights, and her boots that went to her knees.

Her spiked collar kept only a small percentage of her neck warm, curse this cruel flesh...

She rushed to one house, and banged on the door with all her might, screaming. "Let me in! Let me in, dammit! Mutterbumsen! Let me in, verdammen es allen!"

The door opened suddenly, and Astrid nearly fell out from under it, but she caught herself. She shook out her blonde hair, snow fluttering everywhere, and she looked at the person standing there; tall and blonde, thin wire glasses, blue eyes with very little soul. "Oh, Merideth..." said Astrid, putting a hand to her chest and panting, her beating heart nearly pounding out of her chest. "Is... Is Brian home?"

"The idea of 001 having a child... it is almost laughable. "If she gets back to normal, there's no way she could go back to being so cold. Not after all this."

Damon looked back up at Astrid.
Damon was once again in his office, and not alone.

He had brought Astrid with him, the only one who seemed to understand him at all.. Damon felt he needed a shoulder to lean on, and the best shoulder would be hers.

He lay on a bed he'd materalized in the back, doing something he hadn't done in thousands, no, hundreds of thousands, of years. He slept.

Not a doze, not a daydream, a full-blown sleep cycle. Astrid sat at his side, petting his hair as the broken god rest, watching his eyes twitch as he went through REMs.

She couldn't help but wonder if it was something his body just made him go through, or if he actually was dreaming.

But slowly his eyes fluttered open, and she stared into those eyes, unable to look away. His glasses were off and resting on a table nearby, so she saw the real things, not shielded in any way. They were blue vortexes- irises without pupils, and it took about thirty seconds before she could stop looking.

She then looked at his face as a whole. And she realized... Damon looked awed.

Astrid leaned into him. "What is it, Lord Damon?"

He reaches a hand over and picked up his glasses, then slipped them on to her relief. Turning his head slightly, he then looked her in the face, blinked once or twice, then said, "I saw my child."

"Crimson?" asked Astrid with curiosity. She knew that wasn't a smart thing- mentioning that... person.... was a punishable offense in Home, thanks to a rule set forth by the council.

Damon shook his head a negative. "No. Though I did see her..." A large, sorrowful frown panned his face. "I rememebred them shackling her and pulling her off." He stood and started walking about, pacing, his feet silent on the floor. "And only I know where she is kept..."

Her left ear twitched, a habit of hers when she was curious. He nodded, realizing her impatience to know what he meant. "Astrid. Afterwards, I saw my child. A son. Born through the womb, much like Crimson." He shook his head. "But the mother was not 427."

Astrid watched as he sat down before his desk; he folded his hands together and sat his elbows down, making a small place to rest his chin. "Who was it then, Damon?" she asked. Her voice was so small and timid, like a warm breath in a frozen forest.

He looked to her.

There was a long silence; perhaps he was comtemplating who it was. Perhaps he wasn't sure if it was wise to tell. But finally he answered. "It was 001."

"UNNUMBERED!" Damon yelled, infuriated. He stomped over and, grabbing Mamoruno by the back of his shirt, ripped the incubus away from Dorcia and tossed him to the ground. "This is a RESTRICTED AREA, Unnumbered!"

"Yeah, but--"

"No 'buts', Unnumbered!" Damon interrupted, "This is a restricted area, and you are doing... THINGS to 001, which you are strictly forbidden to do!" Damon was glowing slighty, his anger materializing itself in small bits of energy crackling like electricity around him. "You know the rules, Unnumbered, and yet you keep breaking them! I have warned you countless times, and sent you to reprogramming more than any other Unit! What will I have to do to get you to behave?!" By now the glow was much stronger, energy crackling like mad around him, and the room had begun to shake slightly. "This is your last warning, Unnumbered: next time you break a rule-- ANY rule-- I will take care of your punishment MYSELF!" After that last word, the glow around Damon and the rumbling in the ground stopped suddenly, and he lowered his voice back to a calm tone. "427. Get him out of my sight."

"Y-yes, Sir," She stuttered, in a bit of a state of shock at seeing Damon behave so.

All the occupants of the room were quite shocked, really.
No one had ever seen Damon so angry before.

Lady Crow grabbed Mamoruno by the arm and took him out of the room.
There was silence for a moment, and then Damon spoke again.
"005."

"Y-yes?" Answered 005, standing outside the room, peeking through the door.

"This room will be guarded from now on. I want you to make sure there are at least two armed Exterminators are guarding this room at any given time."

"Yes, Lord," And at that, 005 left to take care of his task.

Damon sighed, and looked to Dorcia.
"Are you alright, 001?"

Damon knocked on the door. "001? Are you alright in there?" He waited- a long bit of silence. He knocked again. "001?"

Lady Crow stood by him, and looked him in the eyes. "Go in."

"But she has not..." started Damon.

"GO IN!" yelled Lady Crow. She was leaning forward, fire in her eyes. She stamped a foot on the ground, the colours rippling throughout the hallway.

"Alright, 427..." said Damon, opening the door. "I will."

He walked in and looked around. It was harder for him to see in the dark, and he was having problems now. "001? Are you alright?"

Silence again.

He walked furthur in the room, his mind slowly making the picture out.

Mamoruno was leaned over Dorcia- and much to Damon's shock, Dorcia's uniform shirt was open. Her thin, childlike undershirt still remained. "Do NOT touch me!" shot Dorcia angrily.

"Dorcia, Dorcia... that's not what you're thinking, and I can tell." Mamoruno said suavely.

She twitched. "Yes, but..."

He shook his head. "No, don't think about it. Just let go."

Dorcia cringed as he leaned in, but looked... torn. So conflicted. "And what if I don't?"

Mamoruno smiled. "Oh...
She'd been in there for hours, hanging on the wall in her chains.

She hurt.

And she was alone.

Contemplating on what had happened- on what she had done, what she had become.

But... if she was alone... then what was that noise? It was like footsteps, only slower... shuffling, almost...

And then the door to her cell opened; a dark figure shuffled in and slammed the door before she could even try to make out who it was.

Her eyes were used to the lighting in the room but the sudden flood of aura light from outside made it hard to see.

Then the figure spoke. That voice... "Dorcia."

Her eyes snapped open. "NO!" she let loose a scream. "No, get OUT of here, Unnumbered!"

Mamoruno walked up to her calmly, lazily almost, and put a hand to her chin, looking her over. "Well, well. It's true. You ARE a demon."

"I am not." she said very plainly.

He pulled out her wings and slammed them against the wall, closing his eyes and enjoying her squeal of pain. "Sensitive, still..."

With a coy smile he jammed his knee into Dorcia's crotch, holding his hands hard onto her shoulders. "Dorcia- you're enjoying this, aren't you...?" Leaning in to her, he nipped her neck, letting blood run loose- his tongue danced up her neck, lapping it up.

"No..." she said with a small moan. She wasn't herself anymore.... she wasn't.

Let yourself go, 001. You will like it. You will like it SO much.... That voice... that NEW voice.

...Why didn't she hear 012 anymore?

__________

"We need to check on her." 005 urged, drumming his fingers on the table.

Damon frowned. "She asked to not be disturbed." He looked down, his glasses fogging, though nobody could tell with how opaque they were. Only focusing on one thing right now was he....

Duran flipped over the first card. "Veneficus- the Magician. This represents you, Lord Damon."

Damon nodded in understanding. "Go on."

Duran flipped the next card. "Diabolus. The Devil." Damon nodded weakly. The next card turned. "Edificium. The Tower."

Damon frowned and looked to Duran. "What does this mean?"

Duran shook his head. "I'm not going to lie. It's not good, lord." He pulled back his hood, his bindi shining as well as his eyes.

The Crow had been silent all evening, but finally looked up. "Father?" said she gently.

Damon directed his attention to her. "Yes, 427?"

She frowned. "I... Check on 001. NOW."

"Why?" asked Damon, frowning even more.

She stood up. She was crying, acidic purple tears dripping from the corners of her eyes. "I.. I wish to be alone."

"001..."

"Lord. Leave."

He nodded. "Alright, 001." He walked to the door, and stopped. "I will visit again soon."

And, having said that, he left.

Damon looked around, then gently into her eyes. "001, what did he... DO to you?"

She frowned, looking almost too weak to even do that. "It appears about the same that I had done to him." she simply replied.

He frowned- he really wanted to speak again that she was too hard on such a young Unit, but his mind told him better.

Dorcia looked up at him, eyes full of tears. "Lord Damon, please leave me alone. I am just a flaw."

He shook his head, hugging her tightly against his body, trying to prevent himself from crying as well. "No, I cannot do that, 001. You are so close to being healed, I need to help you."

Looking at him like this... she hurt badly. She shook her head. "...Lord, am I really one of Unnumbered's..." Pausing a moment, she bit her lip, almost unable to bring herself to say it. "Toys?"

He pulled away from her and looked her dead in the eyes, though she'd never know for his opaque lenses. He just stared at her, deadly silent, and after the longest time nodded slowly. "Yes... yes, 001. You are."

She shrank back to the wall, fluttering her demonic wings gently. "...I see." she replied, sniffing.

Looking away, almost embaressed to look at her while he asked, he spoke gently, almost inaudible. "How... how bad are you?"

She looked down, letting herself sink in to her bonds. "I feel almost as... prepared... as Unnumbered must." She looked over his form. "You... look so much different to me now."

Wiping his eyes under his glasses, he looked back at ger. "Different... how, 001?"

She looked almost disgusted in herself, almost as if she wouldn't tell, but she did. "Like you are laid out like a delicious meal to me. Not... not my master."

Damon shook his head- such talk from her, this wasn't his Dorcia.

He looked down at his feet. "But you are not fully developed, 001." Looking back up at her, he smiled oh-so-gently. "We can still save you, but only if you will cooperate." He turned his back to her and looked over his shoulder, almost cautously. "...Will you let us help you?"

The week, to Damon, seemed to have been more like a year than a mere seven days. But finally it had passed and, with a feeling of dread, he walked into the chamber in which Dorcia was held.
He paused as he walked in, taking in the scenery.
It was a mess.
Blood everywhere. And everywhere, there were all sorts of body parts littered about-- even whole limbs.
He bit down on his lip.
It was for the best, he reassured himself. For the best.
He walked up to Dorcia.
He took note of the fact that her wings had doubled in size since he last saw her.
He opened his mouth to greet her, but she spoke first.
"Leave me, Lord," Said she, quietly, not even bothering to look up at him. "I am not worthy of your presence."

Damon was taken aback. He had expected her to be furious at him-- this humbleness wasn't like her at all. "001?"

"I am nothing more than a vile demon," Said she, "And I am not to be trusted. Leave me before I do something terrible to you."

He knelt down in front of her. "You are not a demon yet, 001."

"But I will be one soon," Argued she. "And there is no way I can stop it."

"Do not be silly," He tried to make his voice sound comforting, "All hope is not lost. There is still time."

She shook her head. "No. I cannot do it. I have been trying this whole time, and I have only succeeded in making it worse."

"001..."

"Leave me, Lord Damon. I am wasting your time."

"You are not wasting my time, 001," He leaned over, and put his arms around her, taking special care not to touch her wings. "Demon or no demon, I love you. And I will always love you, no matter what."

He braced himself, thinking she'd laugh at him, or yell at him, or something, but that didn't happen.
She just hid her face in his chest.
And pretty soon, he realized...
She was crying.

And just then he noticed her wings shrink just a little bit.
"There, there," He comforted, gently stroking her hair. "It will be alright."

Poppet cracked a whip hot in his hands. "Ooooh, MADAM!" he yelled, his voice was heavily laden with his ire. "What've we HERE?"

Damon looked away- he knew what Poppet was capable of. He sighes heavily. "I will miss you, 001."

Dorcia's eyes bugged out in what may have genuinely have been fear. "Miss me?!" she screamed, trying to rip forward. Unfortunately for her, they'd used the same type of restraints on her that they'd used on him. "Where are you going, Lord?!" A tone of desperation rang out clear, looking about to cry.

Of course, she was too strong for that.

Damon frowned and shook his head. "I will not be in contact with you for the first week of corrections." he said with a small amount of wetness growing in his big blue eyes- though she couldn't see behind his milky lenses.

She shook her head, suddenly regretting the past seventeen years of her life. "No, Lord... Please!"

Damon looked away, folding his hands, shaking, before his face. "...Goodbye, lady." He started to glance back, but didn't, stopping himself, snapping his head back forward. He hadn't felt pain like this since Crimson was imprisoned.

He frowned. "...As you were, 801."

He walked out, leaving the two alone.

Poppet walked up to her. "Dear lord, madam. what have you become?"

She bit her lip, looking away.

"You're probably more corrupt than I ever was." he said, frowning heavily.

She shook her head and regained herself. "801, release me NOW."

He smiled and ignored her. "Good thing I've been provided with tools."

He opened up a small door at the side, revealing a large fire burning bright- he stood over the fire, hands folded behind his back. His face was relatively soulless, looking at the fire as if it were his own passion against her. "Dorcia, I was starting to begin you cared about me and were doing this for the best." He picked up a large iron rod at the side of the fireplace and shoved it in, leaving a small amount hanging out the end, a wooden handle. "But I've learned that it was in vain."

"You were, and still ARE a flaw!" she shot, struggling. The wall rubbed against her buds and she moaned slightly in pain from it, as they were horribly sensitive.

He wasn't listening- he was rambling again in a freeverse poem. After all, she'd allowed him to write poetry but not speak often- it was only natural. "Everybody shits, they say- but many Units don't, isn't that strange? I don't- I don't even eat. Isn't it strange?" His hand reached into the inferno and he pulled out the long metal rod, burning a red and a white marble.

He approached her; she struggled back to the wall, trying not to scream as the wing buds scraped against the surface as she tried in vain to back away.

"But once the hunter is the hunted and the hunter is the king... I realize I really hadn't really grown too tired of the same old thing." he mumbled gently, his verses becoming more stuctured, more complex. He spat on the rod and it hissed, steam arising as it evaporated on contact.

She cowered down, unaware of what she was becoming. "I am not scared of you." Dorcia said flately to him.

Lies. her inner voice shouted. "You are terrified."

Poppet looked over her. She never realized how tall he was- much taller than her, how handsome he'd become, how old he'd gotten.

She realized this was not the little tyke she'd been whipping just moments before.

He was now an angry young man.

I told you that you were too hard on him. her old self said.

FOOLISHNESS! screamed her back in her mind. I am the corrector. I correct.

Violence was not neccessary! 012 yelled, begging to be heard.

A laugh came from the other side of the skull. This voice was new.... never heard before, much like herself but deeper. Oh, lord, madam- you ARE selling yourself short.

Rule number 557.3-- Do not argue with the decisions of Lord Damon. Rule number 583.0-- Reprogramming is sometimes necessarry. Do not fight it for best results. Rule numb-

She couldn't stand it anymore. She thre her head back, cracking it into the hard aura wall. Unlike the walls usually found in Home, this one was hard like rock and didn't contort to shape like the common (generally painless to come in contact with) surfaces. "SILENCE!" she wailed, trying to make the voices in her mind cease. "SILENCE! Leave me my mind, stop!" She hit her head on the wall again, letting her skull absorb the hard shock of pain shooting through her head. "STOP!"

Poppet looked down at her, a wild look in his blue-gold eyes. "Oh... But I haven't started yet, madam Corrector."

He lifted the iron rod, still burning hot, above his head, behind his back, holding the wooden handle in his cryptic hands.

"Reconsider what you are doing, 801!" shot Dorcia, gritting her teeth, eyes into his.

He smiled. "Heheh...." He let this chuckle roll out of his mouth, disturbing and desolate, and he looked at her. Poppet's tongue darted out of his mouth, caressed his lips with a warm, thin veil of saliva that soon vanished in the cool Home air, and he spoke gently to her, oh so gently.... "Ich liebe dich, Mutti...."

With that, he stabbed the blazing hot bar down her throat.

It burned her badly, torched her insides...

And for the first time in centuries, tears of pain trickled from the corners of her eyes.

Little did she know, Damon was keeping survey in his office.

Poppet knew this.

Little did he care.
